This web page acknowledges allegiance to the Supreme Assembly, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, whose seat of authority is in McAlester, Oklahoma, of which Reverend W. Mark Sexson was the founder and Mrs. Marie Renda  (2006-2008) is Supreme Worthy Advisor, and to the Grand Jurisdiction of Texas of which Mrs. Marlene Dibrell, is our Supreme Deputy, and Sister Shelley Ashcraft (2007-2008) is our Grand Worthy Advisor.

Duncanville Assembly was instituted on November 3, 1966 with 34 girls. The next 14 months were the longest in our Assembly's life as we worked toward getting our Assembly's number. In that time, the girls and adults worked hard to learn their Rainbow work. The girls earned Merit and Service bars, even though we could not receive them until after our Charter was granted.

One of the most exciting nights of our Assembly was January 20, 1968, when Mrs. Martha Marie Whitfield granted our Charter and issued us the number 339. At the next installation, we had our first Awards presentations, and we finally had pins to put on a brag rag. Our original board spent much time planning our Assembly, and made many wise decisions in laying our foundation that has created wonderful traditions.

At each installation, the Assembly presented each new officer with her station pin. Instead of each officer trying to buy the Worthy Advisor a gift, they all contribute to purchasing the Worthy Advisors personal Bible. Hope's family presents a gavel to Hope. These have always been meaningful moments in our installation. As girls, we have always strived for excellence in our ritualistic work. At study clubs, we've struggled and encouraged -each other in leaming the Secret Work and our stations. We've watched with tearful pride as many of our sisters overcame fear and leaming disabilities to perform with proficiency and confidence that carried over into the school work and later into their professional lives.

Because of the high quality of our Sisters, those who were selected to represent the Assembly as Grand Officers, understood the honor they had been given. As an Assembly, we have been proud of how our Grand Officers represented us throughout the state and the rest of the Rainbow world. They have always been a graceful example to the other gids. Our Assembly has been privileged to have received a floor office only twice, but both of these girls will have served as Grand Worthy Advisor. Kimbedee Dawn Kirby in 1990-1991 and Kristy Leos is looking forward to serving 2001-2002.

We enjoy being a part of the Dallas Rainbow Community and all of the activities, Teas and Schools, choirs, drills and Joint meetings. Through the years, we've watched those quarterly joint meetings turn into Friendship meetings every time an Assembly meets, as we work to support and encourage each other.

At Grand Assembly, we have been represented in the Grand Cross Degree, Memorial Service, Grand Choir, Grand Guards, Grand Pages, Banner presentations, area choruses and drills, and talent shows. Many times through the years we have supported the Eastern Star home, the Masonic Children's Home and Scottish Rite Hospital, all of which are in our area. We have supported local community and church charities. We've collected bundles of hose, canceled stamps, soup labels, and aluminum cans. We've made many different kinds of pillows with the used hose as charity projects.

We sent care packages to troops serving in armed conflicts in both Vietnam and Desert Storm. We have tried selling everything. The memory of some of the items (like zipper pulls) can still evoke strong emotions in the people that sold them. In the late 70's, during the height of profitable recycling, we built our savings account on trash. Once a month, several faithful Dads would give up their Saturday morning, fill up their pick-ups with cans and newspapers to recycle. Recently, we have had the most success selling individual servings of chili seasoning mix. Cooking and serving meals has been our most consistent source of earning money through the years.

We have done it for the Lion's Club, city employees, and Masonic and Eastern Star functions. But no matter what the activity we under took, our greatest reward from our ventures was the friendship we enjoyed from working together. We have been fortunate to have had many fine Masons who have supported our Assembly. They have all brought their love of the craft to our meetings and instilled in us a desire to do our work well. One of our most faithful Masons has been Mr. Frank Dullard. He has served on the board for 25+ years. Many meetings, as our only Mason, he was a guard between us and the world. He's our Rainbow Dad.

Mr. Bill Blevins years of work behind the scenes has been recognized by Grand Assembly by his appointment to the Grand Committee on Work. We have been blessed with many fine Eastern Stars who have taught us grace and dignity, seasoned with love and compassion. They have graced our meetings as Mother Advisors, helped at the piano, Recorders desk and refreshment table. They have helped us make dresses, corsages, drapes and decorations. And whether they held the office or not, they often were a 'Mother" to some girl.

We have had three outstanding Eastern Stars serve Grand Assembly. Mrs. Ann Finch and Mrs. D.J. Smitherman served as Grand Visitors. Mrs. Lois Blevins has served as an Adult Grand Officer since 1972 and is currently a member of the Grand Committee on Awards. We didn't live very far from the Whiffield's home. We had many opportunities to be with them through the years and we all gained a great friendship.
